How do we imagine a new way to live?
Vision 1 -
Nick Lopez, Russ Harmon, Sam Rusek
We imagine the framework for cohousing to be a strong community in a constant state of change and growth. Through growth and change, the group is continuously regenerating itself, much like a tree. The community sprouts, grows, branches out, adds new assets and uses its energy to create a better way of life for its members. Members organize themselves to discuss pertinent topics such as childcare, energy and waste, community growth, green space and gardens and community events. All voices are heard.
Vision 2

Growth Balance Common Interest Security
Colony, Jackie, Peter, Matt
We are thinking of a community with a basis of BALANCE. There would be a balance between community and privacy; between built spaces and green spaces. Members would share a common interest and would work together to provide eachother the means of SECURITY, GROWTH and SUSTAINABILITY. Everyone has the same goals, but achieves them in their own special ways, creating a balance of ideas and personalities.

Vision 3
Colin, Linda, Chris
In our eco-topia…. birds and people would sing together in an amphitheater planted with daisies and wild flowers while deer graze and children dance! Well, maybe…
Our group talked of an eco-topia with integration and balance. Integration and balance of built environment and greenscape, of community and privacy, of practicality and beauty/delight, of peace and creative energy, of people and place.
Robert, Caitlin, Scott
(people with different skills coming together to coexist)
Naturally, our eco-topia would be beautiful and self-sufficient. Green in every sense, with birds chirping and animals frolicking in meadows. Cliched in many ways. The essential ideas that are most important to us, however, are more philisophical in nature. Firstly, everyone would have a specific purpose. No free loaders here. Everyone has specialized knowledge that contributes to the whole. That way no one feels they're doing all the work and no one feels useless. Secondly, there needs to be powerful and prominent connections between the public and privated domains, both on a local and on a global scale. In the community itself, private quarters must flow seemlessly into the common spaces so that everyone is truly a part of the community. At the same time, the community itself must be connected to the world at large in a very real way. In other words, no hermits in the community, and no hermit-communities. If this could be realized, it would truly be an eco-topia.
